In a major setback for Bangladesh, T20I skipper Litton Das has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. Soumya Sarkar has been added to the squad, while Jaker Ali, who led Bangladesh in Litton’s absence in the last two matches, will captain the side.
Ahead of the Super Four game against India, Litton sustained the injury during the team’s practice session at the ICC Academy ground on Monday. It was reported that he felt pain on the left side of his waist while attempting a square cut in the nets.
After being examined by team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, he was forced to cut short the training session. Not only did he miss the match against India, but he was also ruled out of the decisive Super Four game against Pakistan, which Bangladesh lost.
“He (Litton) had missed the last two matches of the Asia Cup with a side strain. An MRI scan has revealed a grade one strain in the left abdominal muscle. He is undergoing recovery and will not be available for the T20 series. The medical team will continue to manage his rehabilitation and monitor his progress,” said Bayjedul Islam Khan.
The first T20I will be played on 2 October, followed by the next two matches on 3 and 5 October, respectively. Two days later, the three-match ODI series will begin.
