Bangladesh claimed a 27-run win against the UAE on Saturday (May 17) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, with Parvez Hossain Emon stealing the spotlight thanks to a blistering century. His knock of 100 off just 54 balls powered Bangladesh to a formidable total of 191, which proved to be enough for the visitors.

Emon’s innings was historic, marking the fastest T20I century by a Bangladeshi batter. He surpassed Tamim Iqbal’s previous record of 103 off 60 balls set against Oman during the 2016 T20 World Cup. While Emon dominated with the bat, the rest of the Bangladeshi line-up managed only 70 runs from 66 balls collectively, with an additional 21 extras aiding the total.

Waseem, Asif’s efforts went in vain

In the second innings, Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance. Hasan Mahmud made an early breakthrough by dismissing Muhammad Zohaib, followed by Mustafizur Rahman removing Alishan Sharafu, as UAE made a cautious start. A promising 62-run partnership between Muhammad Waseem and wicketkeeper Rahul Chopra steadied the innings until Tanzim Hasan Sakib struck twice in quick succession, removing both set batters and swinging momentum back in Bangladesh’s favour.

Waseem reached a half-century, but it wasn’t enough to mount a successful chase. Asif Khan added some late resistance with a rapid 42 off 21 balls, but Hasan Mahmud’s third wicket ended his charge, sealing Bangladesh’s win.

This win gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the T20I series. Although skipper Litton Das couldn’t contribute significantly with the bat, he began his tenure as Bangladesh’s full-time white-ball captain on a winning note.
