Barbora Krejcikova emerged victorious in the 2024 Wimbledon women’s singles final, overcoming Jasmine Paolini in a gripping three-set match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The win was her second Grand Slam singles title, adding to her French Open triumph in 2021.

Krejcikova, seeded 31st, started the final with a flawless display, showcasing her versatile game and dominating the first set. Her performance left Paolini struggling to find her rhythm on the grass court. However, Paolini, seeded seventh, made a remarkable comeback in the second set, playing with increased aggression and determination, levelling the match.

The decisive third set was a nail-biter, with both players displaying nerves and resilience. Krejcikova managed to wear down Paolini with consistent pressure, ultimately securing the Championship amid high tension.

Despite entering Wimbledon with a challenging season marked by illness and injury, Krejcikova turned her fortunes around. She arrived at the tournament with a 7-9 record for the year but remained undefeated at Wimbledon, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record.

Krejcikova is now the second active player to have won both the French Open and Wimbledon singles titles, joining Simona Halep in this elite group. Reflecting on the advice of her late mentor and Wimbledon champion, Jana Novotna, Krejcikova said: “Pretty much her last words were, ‘Just enjoy, and just try to win a Grand Slam’.”

The victory also highlighted Krejcikova’s transition from a renowned doubles specialist, with 10 Grand Slam doubles titles, to a formidable singles champion. Her resilience and ability to thrive under pressure were on full display, making her triumph at Wimbledon 2024 a testament to her exceptional talent and determination.
