On a day of attrition at Lord’s where England bucked their own trend by batting slowly, India’s bowlers stuck to their basics. Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled a composed and disciplined spell, impressing with control, swing, and temperament. He picked up both the openers in one over. At stumps, he fronted the media, reflecting on the day’s grind, his injury comeback, and the lessons from mentors like Pat Cummins and Morne Morkel.

On Mentors, Morkel & Pat Cummins

Asked about his development since the Australia tour, Reddy spoke with humility. “After the Australia tour, I realised consistency was everything,” he said. “I asked Pat for advice — he shared how things work Down Under. And here, Morne Morkel has been fantastic in fine-tuning my game.”

England was new terrain for Reddy, who admitted, “Morne told me it’s not drastically different, just keep your eyes on the conditions.”

On the Honours Board & Swing

Reddy’s disciplined lines earned praise — so did his controlled swing. Asked about bowling both ways, he said, “If I land it in the right area, I just want to give 100% on every ball. That’s when movement matters.”

He acknowledged the Lord’s Honours Board chatter too: “Everyone dreams of getting there. I’d be proud, but I just want to keep things simple for now.”

On Injury, IPL & Rediscovering Rhythm

Reddy revealed the injury challenges post-Australia and how his bowling rhythm only returned towards the end of IPL 2025. “A side strain held me back. Early on, I didn’t bowl much, but slowly I built my rhythm. There weren’t technical changes — just belief. The hard work started clicking.”

On the Team Plan: “Discipline over Drama”

India kept England to 250/4, not flashy, but focused. “We were disciplined. Bumrah leads with patience, and that’s our plan. Stick to good areas and let the ball do its job.”

Reddy dismissed the temptation to go chasing magic balls: “Even if you swing it both ways, these are top batters — you need control more than flair. That’s what Bumrah and Siraj keep telling me.”

On the Pitch: “Nobody Really Knows”

Asked how the surface might behave, Reddy grinned. “Even Ollie Pope said he’s not sure what happens next. Honestly, no one knows. Our job is to adapt when things shift. That’s what good teams do.”
