The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Tuesday (May 2), invited applications for the position of India’s senior women’s team head coach. The deadline for receiving applications is May 10. The BCCI will subsequently shortlist the candidates and share it with the Ashok Malhotra-led Cricket Advisory Committee, which will conduct the interviews, as per the board’s constitution.
As per the notice put up on the board’s website, the ideal candidate for the aforementioned position should have the following credentials: “Represented India or any other country at the international level, or should have a minimum NCA level ‘C’ coaching certificate or a similar certificate from a reputed organisation and a minimum of 50 first-class games.”
Even if a candidate has the experience of coaching an international team for a span of one season or has coached a T20 franchise for two seasons, he or she can apply for the role. In addition, “a thorough understanding of the game or playing/coaching experience at the highest level and experience of leading a multicultural team will be recommended”.
Since Ramesh Powar took up a role with the National Cricket Academy in December last year, the position has remained vacant. Incidentally, this year, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side played in the T20 World Cup in South Africa without a head coach. The batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar had taken over the role on a temporary basis.
