Shreyas Iyer is expected to make a return to the BCCI’s central contract list after being left out in 2023-24. According to a report from Times Now, the star batter is likely to receive a Grade A contract following his recent performances. Iyer had a fallout with the selection committee earlier this year when he declined to play a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai after being dropped from India’s Test squad following the second Test against England. However, since then, he has made a strong case for his return.
Iyer was India’s leading run-scorer in the 2025 Champions Trophy, scoring 243 runs in five innings and playing a key role in India’s victorious campaign. His performances in domestic cricket were equally impressive. He finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 345 runs from nine matches and then dominated the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 325 runs in five matches at an incredible average of 325.00.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to retain their A+ contracts
The 29-year-old has also started IPL 2025 in style. Leading Punjab Kings (PBKS), he smashed an unbeaten 97 in his first match, guiding his team to victory. His form and leadership have strengthened his case for a return to the BCCI’s central contract system.
Meanwhile, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to retain their A+ contracts, despite retiring from T20 international cricket after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. BCCI officials reportedly believe that both players deserve the highest grade given their stature in Indian cricket.
“Rohit and Virat will continue their A+ grade central contract (₹7 crore) even after retiring from the T20I format. They are big players and will be accorded the respect they deserve. Shreyas Iyer is all set to be back in the central contract,” BCCI sources stated.
