The BCCI vice–president Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that the upcoming Australia tour is not the final ODI series for veteran stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. His updates come amid speculation whether the two seniors will continue their ODI careers, especially since the 2027 World Cup is still two years away. The two former captains have retired from the other two international formats.
Putting an end to rumours, Shukla clarified that both Kohli and Rohit are still a part of India’s plans. Speaking to ANI after India’s seven-wicket win against the West Indies in the second Test in New Delhi, Shukla said: “It is going to benefit us a lot. They are great batsmen. We will succeed in defeating Australia with them in the team. It is absolutely wrong to say that this is their last ODI series. It depends on the players as to when they have to retire.”
His comments suggest that both players are expected to playin India’s upcoming ODI fixtures. India have 27 ODIs lined up before the 2027 World Cup, which includes nine between now and January, which will give the experienced duo plenty of opportunities.
Kohli and Rohit have a great record in Australia. The former has 14,181 runs from 302 matches with 51 centuries and 74 half–centuries. In Australia, the figures are 1,327 runs in 29 matches with an average of 51.03. On the other hand, Rohit has 11,168 runs from 273 ODIs with 32 centuries. In Australia, he made 1,328 runs from 30 matches at 53.12.
