BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia is optimistic that the Asia Cup trophy will return to India soon after he held discussions with Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi, which also involved ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
Two months have passed, and India have still not received the trophy after the 2025 Asia Cup winners refused to accept it from Naqvi, who then took the trophy away. Since the Asia Cup final, multiple meetings have been held, but the issue remains unresolved.
Saikia provided the latest update on the Asia Cup trophy dispute.
“This is an unfortunate situation which has been ongoing since the final of the Asia Cup in Dubai,” Saikia said in an exclusive interview with RevSportz. “We hope the trophy will come back to India as soon as possible. At the ICC meeting, I personally met the ACC President on the sidelines of the board meeting. We had several meetings, and at one of them the ICC Chairman was also present, though not in the main meeting. When the meeting was over, we met at the same venue and there were some positive discussions, positive signs, and we hope that very soon a solution will emerge to close this chapter.”
The controversy began on September 28 in Dubai, when Naqvi reportedly left the venue with the trophy, which remains locked in the ACC headquarters in Dubai. Saikia subsequently warned Naqvi that if India did not receive the Asia Cup trophy by November 3, they would raise the issue at the ICC meeting — which they eventually did.
