The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to choose its next president without holding elections. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said the board is planning a unanimous appointment instead of a formal vote. The elections are to take place on September 28.

“The nominations would start and you will get to know who is becoming the president. I don’t think there will be any elections. It would be done unanimously,” Dhumal told to NDTV on Friday, stressing that this decision can be agreed by all members.

He explained that members will first submit their preferences before the final call is made. “So, let the members sit and take a call. As of now, everyone has to give their representation. Once that list is out, we will be able to make out who will be taking what position,” he said.

The president’s seat isvacant after former India cricketer Roger Binny turned 70 on July 19 and was no longer eligible to serve the position. Vice-President Rajeev Shukla is currently handling the top responsibilities. Shukla has served as the vice-president since late 2020 and he is the senior-most member of the board. Secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Rohan Gauns Desai, and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia were all elected earlier this year.

The BCCI’s yearly meeting in Mumbai is on the same day as the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup final in Dubai. If India reach the final, top board members might have to miss the game. Dhumal also said India’s new team sponsor will be revealed in two to three weeks.
