BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has dismissed all rumors concerning the retirement of Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from ODI cricket.

In a video shared by the UPT20 League, Shukla said the BCCI is not involved in players’ retirements; it is a personal decision for players to make such calls.

“They haven’t retired, have they? Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are both playing One-Dayers,” he said. “They haven’t taken retirement, so why are you talking about and worrying over their farewell? Retirement from two formats—that’s a phase—but they are still playing ODIs. Don’t worry so much. BCCI policy is quite clear; we won’t ask anyone to retire, they have to make that decision themselves. They have to take that call, and we respect that.”

In response to a possible farewell match for Kohli and Rohit, Shukla said: “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. You are already arranging their farewell! Virat Kohli is very fit, and Rohit Sharma plays very well. Why are you worried about their farewell?”

Rohit and Kohli, who last played for India in the Champions Trophy final, are expected to be part of the squad for India’s upcoming ODI tour of Australia. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on 19 October, followed by a five-match T20I series starting on 29 October.
