In the wake of the tragic stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory celebration at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives, two senior officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have stepped down.
A. Shankar (KSCA Secretary) and E.S. Jairam (KSCA Treasurer) resigned from their respective positions on Saturday, 7 June 2025. KSCA President Raghuram Bhat has accepted their resignations.
In a joint statement issued by the association and signed by the outgoing officials, they said: “This is to inform that due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we tendered our resignation to our respective posts as Secretary and Treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, by way of a letter dated 06.06.2025 to the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.”
On Friday (6 June), the Karnataka High Court directed the police not to take any coercive action against three members of the KSCA managing committee in connection with an FIR lodged over the incident.
Bengaluru Police had registered the FIR a day earlier, naming the RCB franchise as the primary accused. DNA Entertainment, the event management partner, and the State Association were also named in the report. Police confirmed the arrest of RCB’s head of marketing and revenue, Nikhil Sosale, on Friday.
The KSCA maintained in its submission that it had merely leased the stadium to Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL), the owners of RCB.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by RCB regarding Sosale’s arrest or on the FIR lodged against them.
