Kagiso Rabada has returned to India and joined his IPL franchise Gujarat Titans. The South Africa fast bowler has admitted to testing positive for recreational drug use and is serving a provisional suspension, which saw him return home mid-way into the IPL. The transgression took place during the SA20 earlier this year and the result came during the IPL. GT are now ascertaining the steps as to when Rabada could be back in action, but his return looks imminent.
Amid the controversy, Cricket South Africa, too, put out a statement that read: “Rabada has reassured CSA and his fans of his commitment to upholding professional standards and has restated his passion to the sport of cricket and the country he represents with purpose. CSA is fully committed to drug-free sport and reminds cricket players, both professional and amateur, of the importance of adhering to all regulations. We are steadfast in our support to all players in this regard”
To understand the dope regulations better, KP Mohan, too, spoke to RevSportz earlier and stated that the temporary suspension could be lifted within a month: “In case of a banned recreational drug, it could be as little as one month as well. You might be asked to attend a few classes if needed to quit the habit or the addiction, and if you follow what has been asked, you can be let off in a month also. In other extreme cases, people have been exonerated as well.”
