As the highly-anticipated Ashes series approaches, Stuart Broad, one half of England’s celebrated new-ball pair, is eagerly preparing himself for a fierce battle with David Warner, his long-standing rival. Broad openly admits that he simply cannot let go of his addiction to Test cricket.
Over the course of 26 Test matches since 2013, Broad’s bowling prowess has seen him dismiss Warner a remarkable 14 times, more than any other bowler. Warner’s struggles have been especially acute in England, where he averages 3.37 against Broad and has been dismissed by him eight times in 13 Tests. That included seven dismissals in the last Ashes series played in England in 2019.
“I’m obviously looking forward to going to battle with Davey (David Warner) again,” Broad told The Telegraph. “We’ve had incredible battles. I’m really looking forward to stepping on the field against him. I must admit, at the end in Hobart last time, we shared a glass of red and didn’t know if we would play against each other again. Hopefully we can.
“He had the better of me for quite a long period, got a hundred at Brisbane and at the WACA (in 2013) and, ultimately, the biggest praise I can give Davey is the fact I had to completely study him and change my style of bowling because of the success he had against me.”
