Usman Khawaja’s unbeaten ton put Australia in a strong position at close of play of day 2 in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
However, despite Australia being just 82 behind and with five wickets still in hand, Stuart Broad believed England had a good day in the field. He pointed out that the track is slow and there isn’t much in it for the bowlers. England also didn’t help their cause by missing a slew of opportunities. Khawaja himself was bowled while facing a wobble-seam delivery from Broad, but it ended up as a no-ball.
I think it was a pretty good day actually. It has been a slow, turgid pitch so to be still 82 runs ahead of Australia with Pat Cummins and the tail next, we are pretty happy,” Broad said at the presser. “Things could happen pretty quickly for us in the first hour tomorrow and there wasn’t a lot in that pitch today,” Broad was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.
