The Punjab Kings (PBKS) were dominant in their last win against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by eight wickets. With the bowling lineup successfully restricting the LSG batters to a target of 171, the PBKS batters did their part in the second innings. Prabhsimran Singh smashed 69 (34) and earned the Player of the Match award. Along with him, Shreyas Iyer shone with 52* (30), and Nehal Wadhera 43* (25) played a crucial part.

The former Mumbai Indians (MI) batter came in as an impact sub and smashed 43* during the successful chase. But during the post-match presentation, he admitted that he had no clue about making his debut for PBKS at the Ekana Stadium.

Nehal Wadhera was bought for a whopping Rs 4.20 crore by PBKS

Wadhera said: “I didn’t feel much nerves, but I didn’t know that I would be playing today, so I had brought only one kit with me. Later, I got to know that I was playing today,” Wadhera said. He also credited his skipper, Shreyas Iyer, and coach, Ricky Ponting. “When I went into bat, I wanted to play my shots and take my chances. The way Shreyas has been captaining the side has been great. The way he told me to play my natural game and go with the flow, it’s great. The experience I gained in these last two years, I wanted to showcase here with Punjab. That’s how I have been preparing.”

“He (Ricky Ponting) is one of the best coaches I have worked under. I have never heard a negative word from Ricky Ponting till now. He only talks about positive things. When a coach gives such remarks, it boosts your confidence,” he concluded.
