It was a remarkable return for the number 3 tennis star. After a short injury break, Carlos Alcaraz was back to dominate the tennis court. The 22-year-old achieved this today after defeating Serbian player Dusan Lajovic in the ongoing Italian Open.
Sharing his feelings post-match during an interview with BBC Sport, Alcaraz said, “The body is feeling great, I made a few good sprints today without any pain. It was great.”
What happened to Alcaraz?
It was during the Barcelona Open that Alcaraz sustained hamstring and groin injuries. The injury also forced him to miss the Madrid Open, held from 21 April to 4 May 2025. His return at the Italian Open, however, was a triumphant one, delivering a solid performance to win 6–3, 6–3.
For now, the player is preparing for his next match in the last 32. The Spaniard will face either American player Alex Michelsen or Serbia’s Laslo Djere.
While Alcaraz is getting ready, women’s tennis star Aryna Sabalenka has also progressed to the last 32 of the Italian Open. With a convincing score of 6–2, 6–2, she defeated Russian player Anastasia Potapova. Sabalenka will next face American player Sofia Kenin in the round of 32.
