The tennis world is abuzz with the news that French tennis sensation Caroline Garcia will soon be stepping away from professional competition. In an emotional Instagram post, Garcia announced that while she has a “few more tournaments to play”, the upcoming French Open at Roland Garros will mark her “14th consecutive participation – and last”.
“After 15 years of competing at the highest level – and over 25 years of dedicating almost every second of my life to this sport – I feel ready to turn the page and open a new chapter,” Garcia shared with her followers. The decision comes after a career that has seen her rise to the top ranks of the sport, marked by a powerful game and an unyielding fighting spirit.
Garcia’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. About a month ago, she had to withdraw from the Madrid Open due to injury, raising concerns about her immediate future on tour. However, she has since confirmed her fitness, ensuring she will be ready for her final appearance at her home Grand Slam.

“My body – and my personal aspirations – are asking me this,” she stated, hinting at the physical and personal toll of a demanding professional career. Yet, she also expressed profound gratitude for the sport that shaped her: “Through it all, I am deeply grateful for everything this adventure has offered me. For everything tennis has given me. For the strong, passionate, determined woman it helped me become.”
Caroline Garcia has amassed an impressive list of achievements throughout her career. A former world No. 4 in singles and No. 2 in doubles, she is perhaps best known for her triumph at the 2022 WTA Finals, where she captured the biggest singles title of her career. She has won 11 WTA singles titles, including three WTA 1000 events (Wuhan and Beijing in 2017, and Cincinnati in 2022). In doubles, Garcia has claimed two Grand Slam titles at the French Open, in 2016 and again in 2022, both alongside compatriot Kristina Mladenovic. She also reached the semi-finals of the US Open in singles in 2022 and contributed to France’s Billie Jean King Cup victory in 2019.
As Garcia prepares for her final few weeks as a professional player, with Roland Garros being a poignant capstone, the tennis community will undoubtedly rally to celebrate her impactful career. “So, to all my tennis family out there, let’s get together one last time, to dream together, and fight once more,” she urged, setting the stage for an emotional farewell at her beloved home Grand Slam.
