Yuzvendra Chahal’s superb display against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he claimed 4-29, wasn’t ultimately enough to give Rajasthan Royals victory. But he did finish the evening with the small consolation of finding himself atop the all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) wicket-taker’s charts, alongside Dwayne Bravo. Both players have 183 wickets. Chahal got there in just 142 IPL appearances, 19 fewer than the now-retired Bravo. His IPL career economy rate of 7.65 is also better than Bravo’s.

Rajasthan had batted first and scored an imposing total of 214-2, thanks to fifties from Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, the captain. In response, Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma made a solid start. However, Chahal’s three wickets in the slog overs wrested control of the match for Rajasthan. But Glenn Phillips played an outstanding cameo to bring Hyderabad close to the target, and Abdul Samad’s last-ball six off Sandeep Sharma helped them secure their fourth win of the ongoing season.
