
The Sri Lankan squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has been announced. All-rounder Chamari Athapaththu, who has the experience of playing 115 ODIs, will be the captain of the team.
Sri Lanka have high hopes from their skipper in batting, as she is the eighth-ranked batter in the world. She will be supported by Harshitha Samarawickrama, who has the experience of playing over 40 ODI matches.
Sri Lanka’s bowling department includes Inoka Ranaweera, who is placed 28th in the Women’s ODI bowlers rankings and the captain is placed at the 34th position.
Sri Lanka played their last international match in the tri-series involving India and South Africa, where they made it to the final but lost to India by 97 runs.
Sri Lanka will play two warm-up matches before the big tournament begins. The first will be against Pakistan in Colombo on September 25 and the second will be against Bangladesh, also in Colombo, on September 27.
They will start their campaign in the World Cup against India in the first match of the tournament, in Guwahati on September 30.
