Despite MS Dhoni going on a lap of honour in front of his adoring fans at Chepauk, at the conclusion of Chennai Super Kings’ final home game of the season, the franchise is hopeful that he will be back for another title tilt in 2024.
In a video released after their seven-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kasi Viswanathan, the Super Kings CEO, was confident that this wasn’t the end of the road for the team’s talisman. “We believe MS Dhoni is going to play next season as well, so I hope fans will continue to support us like every time,” he said in a video in Tamil.

Though the first two games of the play-offs will be played in Chennai, Dhoni still insisted on acknowledging the supporters after the game. Chennai sit second in the table on 15 points, but need to beat Delhi Capitals to be absolutely certain of their place in the post-season. A tally of 17 points could also well be enough for a place in Qualifier 1, and two opportunities to make it through to the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
