Wednesday, June 4, will be remembered as a painful day in cricket. During Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory parade, a stampede took place that claimed at least 11 lives and left more than 47 people injured, according to news reports.

RCB had just won the IPL 2025 title, and thousands of fans gathered near Vidhana Soudha to celebrate. People waved flags and held banners, excited to see their favourite players. The celebration began after the players met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

After the meeting, the team boarded an open-top bus for a parade from Vidhana Soudha to M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a big event was scheduled. But the crowd grew too large and became hard to control. In the rush and confusion, a stampede occurred, leading to injuries and deaths.

What was meant to be a joyful celebration turned into a tragedy. Several members of the cricket community expressed their sadness over the incident through social media:

Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “What happened at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, is beyond tragic. My heart goes out to every affected family. Wishing peace and strength to all. 🙏”

Anil Kumble said: “It’s a sad day for cricket! My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives while celebrating RCB’s victory today. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured. Tragic!!”

Harbhajan Singh posted: “Heartbreaking news of a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and injuries to several cricket fans, has cast a dark shadow over the spirit of the game that unites millions across our nation.

My deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate event. I stand in solidarity with them during this incredibly difficult time and pray for the speedy recovery of those who have been injured.”
