In a move that has left many fans disappointed, Visa Cash App RB has officially announced Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from the team, with Liam Lawson set to replace him. The announcement came via the team’s social media channels after Ricciardo had already raced his final race for the team—without any formal farewell.

This abrupt exit has sparked frustration among Ricciardo’s supporters, who had anticipated the change well in advance but expected a more fitting tribute for one of the most beloved drivers in Formula 1 history. Known for his infectious personality and high-profile moments on the grid, Ricciardo’s contributions to the sport are undeniable. Yet, Visa Cash App RB’s decision to forgo a proper send-off has left a sour taste for many.

“I’ve loved this sport my whole life. It’s wild and wonderful and been a journey. To the teams and individuals that have played their part, thank you. To the fans who love the sport sometimes more than me haha thank you. It’ll always have its highs and lows but it’s been fun and truth be told I wouldn’t change it. Until the next adventure.” Daniel wrote on his social media following the official announcement.

The Australian driver returned to Red Bull’s junior team mid-season in 2023, replacing Nyck de Vries after a tumultuous period for the rookie. However, Ricciardo’s comeback was marred by an unfortunate crash at the Dutch GP, leading to a wrist injury that temporarily sidelined him and allowed Lawson to step in. Lawson’s strong performances, including a top-ten finish at the Singapore GP, made it clear that the young driver was ready for a full-time seat.

“He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone develop and foster a tight team spirit” stated Team Principal Laurent Mekies on Daniel’s departure.

Despite fans bracing for Ricciardo’s exit, the lack of a formal goodbye feels particularly jarring for a driver of his stature. The absence of a heartfelt farewell highlights a business-first approach in Formula 1, even for one of the sport’s most adored figures.
