The termination of USA Cricket’s commercial contract with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) is a challenge for the country’s cricketing future, which also includes preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup and the continuation of Major League Cricket (MLC).
Players have expressed deep concern over the standoff. Corey Anderson, USA all–rounder and operational director of the US Cricketers’ Association (USCA), said the situation has left players in uncertainty.
“I guess the termination of this contract between USAC and ACE just leaves players in a limbo and in a scenario where they are now so uncertain of their futures,” Anderson told ESPNcricinfo.
ACE has invested heavily in the cricket infrastructure, from the grounds in Texas, Florida, and North Carolina to two drop-in pitches at the Oakland Coliseum. It has also been funding national player contracts.
Anderson warned that a prolonged dispute could derail important camps and tours, including trial matches against West Indies A and preparations for the World Cup. “All of those things are very much in a big question mark at the moment, which again just creates more uncertainty around the players,” he said.
Despite the concerns, the USA Cricket chairman Venu Piske assured that players remain the board’s main concern. “Players are our No. 1 priority without any doubt. We have made sure we take care of players in all situations even when we are getting our funding as per the contract from ACE, or not getting the funding,” Piske said.
He added that the board is open to “renegotiate” and even “sanction” MLC while discussions continue.
Anderson stressed that ACE’s involvement remains vital. “I don’t see a world in which they can provide a premium product or quality of product without funding from ACE,” said the former New Zealand international, urging for a resolution that ensures stability for players and the sport.
