As I prepare to cover the Paralympics for the first time, I find myself filled with anticipation unlike any other. This isn’t just another sports event—it’s a celebration of the human spirit, a testament to resilience, determination, and the unyielding pursuit of excellence. What excites me most about covering the Paralympics isn’t merely the incredible athletic feats that will unfold before my eyes, but the profound stories of courage and triumph that each athlete brings to these Games.

The Paralympics, more than any other event, forces us to challenge our perceptions of ability and disability. It compels us to look beyond the physical and to recognise the strength, resolve, and passion that define these athletes. I’m looking forward to witnessing how they defy expectations—not just those imposed by society, but often their own, as they push the boundaries of what their bodies can achieve. Each event is more than just a competition; it’s a powerful affirmation of life, a declaration that limitations are more about mindset than physical reality.

What excites me most is the opportunity to uncover the personal journeys of these extraordinary athletes. The road to the Paralympics is often paved with unimaginable obstacles. Many of these athletes have faced life-altering injuries or illnesses, and have had to navigate a world that often isn’t built with them in mind. Their stories are not just about winning medals; they are about resilience, about the indomitable will to rise above challenges that would make many of us falter. To share these stories is a privilege, and I am eager to bring them to light with the respect and admiration they deserve.

In other sporting news:

In a world that so often focuses on what is wrong, on what is missing, the Paralympics shift the narrative to what is possible. These Games are a reminder that strength comes in many forms, and that true victory is not always measured by a podium finish but by the courage to keep going when the odds seem insurmountable. As I prepare to cover these Games, I am reminded that every athlete here is already a champion, not just in sport, but in life.

As a first-time reporter at the Paralympics, I know this experience will be humbling and transformative. The Paralympics are more than just an event; they are a global celebration of the human spirit, a testament to the power of resilience, and a reminder of what it means to truly live. I hope to bring back stories that do justice to the incredible athletes I will have the honour of covering—stories that will inspire, challenge, and perhaps change the way we all view the world.

What I’m most looking forward to is the privilege of being part of something far greater than myself—a movement that transcends sport and touches the very core of what it means to be human. Covering the Paralympics isn’t just about reporting on an event; it’s about telling stories that remind us of the beauty, strength, and infinite possibilities of the human spirit. And for that, I am deeply excited and profoundly grateful.
