Australia has announced their squad for the upcoming World Test Championship Final at Lord’s, starting on June 11, and the subsequent tour of the West Indies, starting on June 25. The Player of the Sheffield Shield Final, Brendan Doggett, has been named as the travelling reserve. Cameron Green, who last played a Test match in March 2024, is returning to cricket after a back injury.
Josh Hazlewood and captain Pat Cummins are also returning to the squad after missing the Champions Trophy due to injuries, although they had returned to competitive cricket earlier through the IPL. It will also be interesting to see which cricketers return for the remainder of the IPL, as Cricket Australia has left that decision up to the players.
“We are fortunate and looking forward to having Pat (Cummins), Josh (Hazlewood) and Cam (Green) back in the squad,” said Chairman of Selectors George Bailey. “The team finished the WTC cycle with an impressive series victory in Sri Lanka following an equally strong summer in defeating India for the first time in a decade.”
“Those series capped a consistent performance across the two-year cycle and now presents us with the incredibly exciting opportunity to defend the World Test Championship. It means a lot to the group to reach the final, and they are very much looking forward to the challenge South Africa will present at Lord’s.”
