Cricket Australia has given their players the option to choose between returning to India for the completion of the 2025 IPL, or to opt out of the tournament. There is uncertainty surrounding the return of players such as Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood. The statement issued by CA comes in the backdrop of BCCI announcing the resumption of IPL from May 17 in the aftermath of the ceasefire announced by India and Pakistan.

Australia are also scheduled to play the World Test Championship final against South Africa, starting on June 11, at Lord’s. So, the Australian board would be keen to gear up their preparations for the big clash. “Following the announcement that the IPL will resume on Saturday, Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not,” the statement said.

“Team management will work through preparation implications for the World Test Championship final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches. We are maintaining communication with the Australian government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety,” the statement added.

The tournament was suspended last Friday on the back of India-Pakistan tensions. Incidentally, the PBKS-DC game in Dharamshala was called off amid the escalating tensions.
