Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have finally broken their long-standing losing streak at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk), defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the first time since the inaugural IPL season in 2008.

Skipper Rajat Patidar led from the front with a match-winning performance, earning the Player of the Match award. While this victory is undoubtedly special for RCB and their fans, several factors make it even more significant.

Three Reasons why this win over CSK is special for RCB

First Win at Chepauk Since 2008

RCB have ended their 17-year wait for a win at CSK’s fortress. After their victory in 2008, RCB suffered eight consecutive defeats at this venue. Now, this marks only their second-ever win against CSK at Chepauk, making it a historic moment.

Perfect Start: Two Wins, RCB at the Top

RCB have begun their IPL 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, winning both of their opening matches. With four points and a healthy net run rate of +2.266, they currently sit at the top of the points table.

What makes this start even more impressive is that both wins have come in away fixtures—first against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata and now against CSK in Chennai. They are yet to play at their home ground in Bengaluru.

Back-to-Back Wins Over CSK

RCB have now defeated CSK in two consecutive matches. Before today’s victory, they triumphed over CSK by 27 runs in their last encounter in Bengaluru during IPL 2024. This gives RCB fans even more reason to celebrate.
