On March 26, 2025, on the eve of the highly anticipated IPL 2025 season opener between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), cricket legend Virat Kohli was given a deafening welcome at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Though he is the icon of RCB, Kohli’s closeness to CSK fans was evident as he was greeted with deafening chants of “Virat! Virat!” and even “Ee Sala Cup Namde” by parts of the Yellow Army.
The rivalry promises to be breathtaking. In their previous match, RCB secured a seven-wicket victory over the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), on March 22. Chasing a target of 175, Kohli’s unbeaten 59 and Salt’s 56 led RCB to their target in just 16.2 overs. Meanwhile, CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets on March 23, with spinner Noor Ahmad taking 4-18 to restrict Mumbai to 155-9, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 53 setting up the chase.
Now that’s a night to remember for these cricket fans at Chepauk! ❤️

Following a gruelling practice session to prepare for CSK’s strong spin attack, Kohli took some time out to interact with the sea of fans that filled the stands. He signed autographs, clicked selfies, and even treated them to a warm smile and a wave. A young CSK fan, sporting a Dhoni jersey, displayed a placard that read, “Thala Dhoni, King Kohli – Our Hearts Belong to Both,” reflecting the fans’ mutual affection for the superstar and the people of Chennai. Kohli’s enduring fan following in Chennai once again proved that cricket transcends team loyalties.
As RCB is set to face CSK on March 28, fans are eagerly awaiting another nail-biting contest featuring their beloved Virat at the legendary Chepauk.
