Kamindu Mendis pulled off an absolute stunner to dismiss Dewald Brevis during the IPL 2025 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The catch has already been hailed as one of the best moments of this year’s tournament.
After winning the toss, SRH opted to bowl first and made an immediate impact by taking early wickets. However, debutant Dewald Brevis looked solid at the crease. Playing in his first match for CSK, Brevis anchored the innings with confidence, smashing one boundary and four maximums during his stay. He scored 42 runs before losing his wicket on the fifth ball of the 13th over.

Only a catch like that could’ve stopped that cameo from Brevis! 🤯

The breakthrough came through Harshal Patel, who bowled a slower delivery outside off, tempting Brevis to go for a big shot. But the attempt didn’t go to plan. Brevis hit a flat shot toward long-off, where Kamindu Mendis executed a stunning catch with precision and athleticism.
Veteran commentator Ian Bishop summed up the brilliance of the catch on air by saying, “Which is his weak side, we never know.” It was a moment that showcased not just quick reflexes but also years of practice, perfect timing, and sharp athletic instincts.
Brevis was just starting to shift gears, having smashed a six on the previous delivery. But Mendis’ brilliance in the field brought an end to what could have been a dangerous innings.
“That catch happened naturally.” – Kamindu Mendis
SRH bowlers continued their dominance after that, bundling out CSK for 154 in 19.5 overs. Harshal Patel was the standout performer, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul. Apart from Brevis, he also dismissed Sam Curran, MS Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad.
After the 1st innings, while talking to the broadcaster, Mendis said: “When I do fielding practice, I do both sides. So that catch happened naturally. I’m comfortable with my right arm, because my dominant arm is the right arm. But both are comfortable for me.”
