MS Dhoni is all set to become the 4th Indian cricketer and the 2nd Indian wicketkeeper to play 400 T20 matches, marking another milestone in his legendary career. As Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take the field against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, their home ground, fans are gearing up to see their Captain Cool play his 400th game in the T20 format.
Who are the other three Indian players to play 400 or more T20s?
Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Rohit Sharma tops the list, having played in 456 T20s and scored 12,058 runs, including eight centuries and 80 fifties. Following him is former Team India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who has played 412 T20s and scored 7,537 runs, including 35 fifties. Then comes Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) Virat Kohli in third place with 408 T20s, where he has scored 13,278 runs, including nine centuries and 102 fifties. Now, Dhoni will join them in this elite list when he steps on the field later today against SRH in Chennai.
Known for his calm approach to the game, sharp glove work, and legendary finishing skills, Dhoni has been a key figure in the growth of T20 cricket, especially through his leadership in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with CSK.
However, CSK has been struggling badly this season, currently sitting in the tenth spot with just two wins in eight games. Despite playing some crucial quickfire cameos in the lower order and also being named captain of CSK in the middle of the season, Dhoni has failed to turn the fate of the team so far. However, today might be the day when fans witness a special performance from him and his team on the occasion of his 400th T20 match, as it could turn out to be a must-win clash for them to stay alive in the playoff race in this ongoing competition.
