CSK Youngster Shines on Vitality Blast Debut

Hampshire marked a huge win against Essex in the Vitality Blast South Group match held in Southampton on May 30, 2025. Batting first, Hampshire posted a strong total of 230 runs for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. In chase, Essex were bowled out for just 124 runs in 16.2 overs, giving Hampshire a comfortable 106-run victory.

Making his Vitality Blast debut, South African youngster Dewald Brevis, who was a part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, made an instant impact. He scored 68 runs in 32 balls at a strike rate of 212.50 but lost his wicket to Sam Cook in the 17th over. His innings included four boundaries and six maximums that showed the form of Brevis.

Known for his explosive batting, Brevis scored 225 runs in 6 matches for CSK this season at a strike rate of 180.0 with an average of 37.50.

“Gotta take care of the small things.” – Dewald Brevis

Liam Dawson was the key bowler, who took 4 wickets for 26 runs, while Scott Currie also took three crucial wickets, and one wicket each came from James Fuller and Benny Howell. Essex’s Michael Pepper tried his best with 51 runs off 38 balls, but wickets kept falling around him.

During the post-match interview, Dewald Brevis shared his thoughts and said, “Yeah, it was lot of fun, I really loved it. Obviously we got a win, so that’s what we wanted and, you know, we have to focus on the next game. Enjoy the moment first and then, yeah, tommorw is a new day. Gotta take care of the small things. But yeh, there was very good things. But there things we can improve on as well.”
