Australia captain Pat Cummins revealed that all-rounder Marcus Stoinis could find a place in the playing XI for the game against South Africa. Cummins noted that the all-rounder’s valuable experience of having played at the ground during his time with LSG would help the side.
“He’s fit. We’ll announce a team tomorrow but it’s a ground he knows pretty well. I think chatting to him and a couple of other guys, it’s probably in a bit of a different condition to what it is for IPL (Indian Premier League). The wicket looks really good so he’s someone we’ll look at pretty closely,” he said in the press-conference.
Australia is seeking a comeback after a loss in their opening World Cup match against India. In contrast, South Africa is riding high on confidence following a convincing win against Sri Lanka in their first game. In past ODI World Cup encounters, Australia and South Africa have met six times, with Australia holding a 3-2 advantage, and their 1999 semi-final famously ended in a tie.
