Curtain falls on an epic series for both India and RevSportz

Finally, it is time to head home. But for a brief four days in India in the middle, a two-and-a-half-month-long tour of the UK is finally coming to an end. The entire nine-member RevSportz team will be heading home this afternoon, and may I say, after having turned a new leaf in our coverage. The series was made for it and we grabbed the opportunity. We did not sensationalise and never will. We called things out whenever we felt the need for it and praised the team each time there was occasion to.

We were critical of certain calls and that’s our job. But at no point did we stop supporting the team. I have made it clear to every colleague of mine that while each one of them can be constructively critical, none of them can ever be abusive. That’s not what we stand for, and never will. In the end, the feedback that we have received says it all. On social media and in person, people have been raving about the coverage, and all this effort and spend finally seems worth it.

For two straight months, people have put in 14-15-hour work days. And not just the reporters here in the UK. We have churned out quality pieces, put out quality videos, broken news and done everything that was asked of us. As founder and Editor-in-Chief, I have to say I am super proud. We are a young team and a young company. Not even four years old yet, and it is already evident that, much like Shubman Gill’s India, we don’t want to be known as a young team. Rather, we want to be known as a Gun team and we will do all we can to make sure it happens.

The best part is that my team now knows what is expected of them. They know that excellence is the watchword. Yes, we will make mistakes. It is only human to do so. But the effort will never be lacking. And that’s what matters. Be it turning up day in and day out at a certain time, sending videos on time for a quick turnaround, editing things while keeping in mind a hard deadline, or putting out copies straight after the game, the team has done it all.

As we head back, I am a hugely satisfied man. England was a big risk, and many had questioned the audacity of bringing a nine-member team. It wasn’t an easy call and it stands vindicated in the end. And that’s where we will start to plan our next assignment. Be it the Women’s World Cup or the Asia Cup, the Commonwealth Games or the Asian Games, we will be there in numbers to bring the best possible coverage to our viewers, both video and written.

We now have dedicated viewers and readers, and they will stay with us for the journey. Our investors are all super pleased and corporate backing is steadfast. RevSportz goes back from England  in a position of strength. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that while India drew the series 2-2, we at RevSportz won the coverage. We will draw from it and keep getting better.
