According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka won a legal victory as three out of four sexual assault charges against him were dropped by the public prosecutor. Gunathilaka had been accused of raping a woman in Sydney during the T20 World Cup in Australia between October and November of the previous year. RevSportz had reported on the issue in detail at the time.
Now it has been reported that the public prosecutor withdrew three of the charges in a Sydney court, and Gunathilaka is scheduled to return for a plea hearing on July 13.

The left-handed batter had allegedly committed the offense after a date with a 29-year-old woman in November 2022 when they returned to her home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Gunathilaka was arrested in the early hours at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Sussex Street, leading to his suspension from all forms of the game. Initially facing four counts of charges including sexual intercourse without consent, Gunathilaka is now relieved of three of them as these charges have been dropped. This should come as a major relief for the cricketer and for Sri Lankan cricket in general.
