David Warner, the Australian opener, is hoping to bid adieu to Test cricket at the Sydney Cricket Ground, against Pakistan, early next year.

“If I can get through this (WTC final and ensuing Ashes campaign) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then,” Warner was quoted by Cricket.com.au.

“I probably owe it to myself and my family – if I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia – I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series. You’ve got to score runs. I’ve always said the (2024) World Cup would probably be my final game,”

Warner has played in 103 Tests, scoring 8158 runs at an average of 45.57. He has 25 hundreds and 34 fifties to his name. Warner, who made his Test debut at the Gabba against New Zealand in 2011, has a top score of 335 in Test cricket.
