In the 60th match of the IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals (DC) faced the Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium. In a stunning turnaround of roles, KL Rahul opened for DC, stepping away from his usual third position and delivering his masterclass.

The elegant right-handed batter smashed an unbeaten century, scoring 112 runs off 65 balls at a stunning strike rate of 172.30. His efforts anchored the DC innings to 199 runs on the loss of three wickets.

The decision to send him as an opener proved to be the masterstroke by DC. Rahul showcased his class with a blend of elegant strokes, hitting 14 boundaries and four maximums. With two early setbacks, Faf du Plessis on five runs and Abhishek Poral at 30 runs, Rahul kept anchoring the inning and accelerated when needed.

After today’s knock, KL Rahul now has 493 runs in 11 matches

He shared a vital partnership with Axar Patel and remained unbeaten along with Tristan Stubbs, which ensured DC could utilise the death overs. His ability to switch gears under pressure was evident throughout, especially during the last five overs. After today’s knock, he now has 493 runs in 11 matches with an average of 61.63 and a strike rate of 148.05, which includes one century and three half-centuries.

After the knock, DC team mentor, Kevin Pietersen, said: “KL wanted to bat at the top. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but a player of his quality, how good was that to watch. When you can see players of that quality practice and watch them bat like that, it’s a privilege.”
