Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Anukul Roy has allayed fears surrounding Ajinkya Rahane’s injury sustained during their victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, assuring fans that the issue isn’t as serious as it first appeared.

Rahane, who has been KKR’s standout performer with the bat this season—scoring 297 runs in 10 games—suffered a blow to his hand while fielding at short cover. The incident occurred on the first ball of the 12th over of DC’s innings, when a fierce drive from Faf du Plessis off Andre Russell ricocheted off Rahane’s hand. He immediately left the field for medical attention and didn’t return for the rest of the match.

Doctors will assess him: Anukul

“He got a few stitches, but it’s manageable. It doesn’t seem too serious—he might need a couple of days to recover. The doctors will assess and confirm, but for now, he’s doing okay,” Anukul Roy said after the match.

With Rahane off the field, Sunil Narine assumed captaincy responsibilities, as vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer had already been substituted out.

KKR returned to winning ways with a 14-run victory, successfully defending a total of 204. The result keeps their playoff hopes alive, with four wins from 10 matches placing them seventh on the points table.

The defending champions will be hoping for a swift recovery for their skipper, whose consistent contributions with the bat have been crucial in a season where several of KKR’s other batters have struggled to find form.
