In the fourth match of the Women’s Premier League 2024, UP Warriorz faced off against Delhi Capitals. Both were coming off a loss in their first fixture. Delhi Capitals opened their account with a 9-wicket win.

Batting woes continue for UP Warriorz

Winning the toss, Delhi Capitals opted to send UPW to bat. The decision proved to be a masterstroke for the Capitals, as the Alyssa Healy-led franchise crumbled under pressure. Apart from Shweta Sehrawat, who made a 42-ball 45, the rest of the batters struggled. Grace Harris was the next highest-scorer with a disappointing 17-run knock. Despite expectations fuelled by her impressive performance in the domestic circuit and a hefty Rs 1.3 crore bid, young talent Vrinda Dinesh failed to replicate her batting prowess once again.

Radha steals the spotlight

Delhi Capitals’ Radha Yadav stole the spotlight as she ran through UPW’s batting line-up and clinched four wickets for 20 runs. She dismantled the batting by scalping the important wickets of Harris, Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire and Sophie Ecclestone. UPW’s total of 119 never looked enough.

Shafali charms with the bat

Shafali Verma, widely known for her big hitting and aggressive batting style, after a long while served glimpses of her mammoth potential. Opening the innings for DC after an unsuccessful first game, Shafali looked determined to make a statement. She was tonking bowlers right and left, scoring a brilliant half-century and taking the team across the line with a 64-run knock off 43 balls.

Lanning takes charge once again

Meg Lanning, the former Australian skipper and seven-time World Cup winner, is no stranger to things going her way. Being the captain that she is, Lanning took control of the innings and made sure she finished the game after walking in to open with Shafali. Lanning scored a brilliant half-century (51 off 43), proving why she is one of the best in history.
