With a few days to go for the start of IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals is still busy sorting out their wicketkeeper conundrum. The franchise has Sarafaraz Khan who can keep wickets as well. The cricketer from Mumbai injured his finger ahead of the IPL 2023 season so there is a question on his availability.
Delhi have also brought England wicketkeeper batter Phil Salt for INR 2 crores. But if he is included in the playing XI, it will disturb the balance of overseas slots. Hence, Delhi Capitals might opt to sign an Indian wicketkeeper ahead of the IPL 2023 to replace Rishabh Pant.
Delhi Capitals Head Coach Ricky Ponting announced that they will decide on the wicket-keeper batter only after a couple of practice games which are scheduled for March 25 and 28.
At the moment there are four wicket-keeper batters in DC camp in the likes of Sheldon Jackson, Luvnith Sisodia, Abhishek Porel and Vivek Singh.
Among the four Sheldon is the most experienced and has also played in IPL before with Kolkata Knight Riders. But the 36 years old keeper from Sourashtra has failed to impress, scoring only 23 runs in 5 matches.
Luvnith Sisodia has looked impressive in the preparatory camp in Kolkata in the presence of DC Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly. Apart from his wicket-keeping skills, he is also a hard-hitting batter.
Vivek Singh, who played for both Railways and Bengal has been impressive at the DC camp in Delhi. Another Bengal wicket-keeper batter Abhishek Porel looks to be lagging in the race. According to Sourav, he looked a bit raw and may not be ready for the pressures of IPL games.
