The second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) is set to begin on August 2, while the women’s competition will be held from August 17 to August 24. This year, eight teams will compete in the men’s league and four in the women’s league. The tournament will begin with an opening ceremony followed by the first men’s match. The final will be played on August 31 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with a reserve day scheduled for September 1.
DPL has divided the men’s teams into two groups. Group A includes Outer Delhi Warriors, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and North Delhi Strikers. Group B comprises West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, South Delhi Superstarz, and Purani Dilli 6.
A total of 40 matches will be played in the men’s league. Each team will play two matches, home and away, against the three other teams in its own group, and one match each against four teams from the opposite group. That makes it 10 league games per team.
The top four teams in the standings will progress to the playoffs. The first and second-placed teams will meet in Qualifier 1, and the winner will directly qualify for the final. The third and fourth-placed teams will face each other in the Eliminator. The losing side will be knocked out, while the winner will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2. The winner of Qualifier 2 will then advance to the final.
The women’s tournament will follow a round-robin format with four teams playing a total of six league matches. The top two teams at the end of the group stage will advance to the final.
Speaking ahead of the new season, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley said, “Season 2 of DPL marks a new chapter for domestic franchise cricket in Delhi. With round-robin format and the inclusion of two new men’s teams, the level of competition will be significantly elevated.
“The women’s league also continues to gain ground and will be a strong platform for aspiring female cricketers in the Capital. Our vision is to create a high-quality, sustainable league that gives Delhi’s players the spotlight they deserve, and we are proud of the foundation that’s being laid with DPL.”
