Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has called it a day. During his long career, Mishra played under several captains, including MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Anil Kumble, and Virender Sehwag, across formats.

In an exclusive chat with RevSportz, Mishra opened up about the captaincy styles of Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Incidentally, he never played a match under Rohit’s captaincy.

“I have not played under Rohit’s captaincy but have played with him. About their (Kohli and Rohit) captaincy, I would say that they are very different in their aggression, the way they talk, way they handle players et cetera,” Mishra said.

He explained that both these leaders have contrasting ways of showing their passion for the game.

“Rohit is a much calmer person when talking but shows aggression with his bat. Virat would be more on the energetic and aggressive side. But both would be very positive on field. Both have been supportive and never forced any decision on me. All they did, even MS Dhoni for that matter, was give me tips to make a mark on the field — in a very supportive manner, never forcibly.”

Mishra’s international career spanned across formats. He represented India in 68 matches and took 156 wickets. The bulk of his appearances came under Dhoni’s captaincy, when he played 34 matches (74 wickets). The second-most came under Kohli, with 18 games (56 wickets).

His final appearance in India colours came in a T20I against England in Bengaluru on February 1, 2017, when Kohli was captain.
