Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has been appointed as the mentor and batting coach for the men’s team of London Spirit in The Hundred. This will be his first coaching role outside the IPL.

Spirit’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed his excitement about welcoming Karthik, saying: “He is a truly original thinker in our game, and his vast experience in short-format and franchise cricket will be invaluable to us. He’s also great fun to work with and brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm to everything he does.”

Bobat, who has worked with Karthik at RCB, also highlighted the importance of adding experienced people to the team’s support staff, saying: “The signing of another elite individual with significant stature in the game demonstrates our ambition, and the importance we place on ensuring that our players receive the best possible support.”

Karthik recently worked as a mentor with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2025 IPL after stepping away from the tournament as a player in 2024. The former RCB cricketer also represented Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20.

Sharing his excitement about the new role, Karthik said: “What an exciting time to be joining London Spirit. When I heard about the plans and ambitions of Mo, MCC and the Tech Titans, I was really enthusiastic to join. To spend the English summer working at Lord’s is truly a dream come true. It is the ground where I made my debut for India and where I played my last Test match – Lord’s is very close to my heart. I can’t wait to see the squad come together and to work with some exceptional cricketers next year.”

In the 2025 season of The Hundred, London Spirit finished second from bottom in the points table, winning only three of their eight matches. This disappointing campaign has led to changes in the coaching staff.
