Former India head coach Rahul Dravid credited Rohit Sharma for adopting an aggressive brand of play and changing the team’s mindset in white-ball cricket.

Speaking on Breakfast with Champions, Dravid said that during his time as head coach, he had many discussions with then-captain Rohit about the direction they wanted to take the side in limited-overs cricket.

“From the time I came in, a lot of the discussion with Rohit was around the fact that we wanted to play a more aggressive brand of cricket,” he said. “And we tried; we started right from the beginning because we could see that that’s the way the game was evolving, and Rohit deserves a lot of credit for it.”

Many players who were part of the T20 World Cup squad in 2022 credit Rohit for bringing about the wave of change after suffering a heavy loss to England in the semi-final. In 2023, India played an aggressive brand of cricket with Rohit leading from the front as they reached the final. The following year, the Men in Blue ended their ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados.

“To move the team in a particular direction, to play the game in a much more aggressive and positive way, and I’m glad that we’ve kept going in that direction to the point where I think India are kind of changing what T20 cricket is like,” Dravid added.
