Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis thinks highly about MS Dhoni and acknowledges his influence on his development as a leader.
Before assuming the leadership role at RCB, Du Plessis was an integral part of Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad. As a key opener, Du Plessis excelled in the vibrant yellow jersey, emerging as one of the mainstays under Dhoni’s captaincy. Joining the Super Kings in 2012, the South African played a pivotal role in the franchise until 2021.
“He (Dhoni) is the greatest ever captain, and I am very lucky that I have spent some time with him over the years,” Du Plessis told Star Sports. During his stint with CSK, Faf also captained the South African national team, setting the stage for his future leadership endeavors at RCB.

“I think that’s probably the biggest thing in my career. It shaped me from a leadership perspective. In my years at Chennai… just observing MS and Stephen Fleming. As a young leader, it was special to my growth. As a leader that I am today. So I’m very grateful to MS and everything about his leadership because it really shaped me. When I see him, it’s like a big brother that you see, you want to beat him but you don’t really want to beat him because there’s so much respect for that.”
The high octane clash between CSK and RCB will mark the commencement of IPL 2024, on March 22 in Chennai. This showdown between two high-profile IPL franchises is expected to reignite their storied rivalry and spirited banter on social media platforms.
