
England opener Ben Duckett will miss the home T20I series against South Africa after being rested following a busy summer. All-rounder Sam Curran has been added to the squad for the South Africa fixtures and the subsequent tour of Ireland, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Friday, 5 September.
“Opening batter Ben Duckett will be rested for the three-match series against South Africa,” said an ECB release. “Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran has been added to the squad for the fixtures against South Africa, which commence at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, next Wednesday. Curran has also been included in the squad for the IT20 tour of Ireland later this month.”
Earlier this week, Jordan Cox was added to the squad for the upcoming Ireland T20Is. His Oval Invincibles team-mate Sam Curran has now been drafted in following his all-round brilliance in The Hundred.
In another update, Matthew Potts, who had been included in the squad for the Ireland T20Is, has been released as he turns his focus to red-ball cricket. He will represent Durham in the final rounds of the County Championship. With Jamie Overton taking an indefinite break from Test cricket, Potts could come into contention for the Ashes later this year.
