East Bengal FC ended their winless streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over NorthEast United FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata, in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season.

A first-half header from Dimitrios Diamantakos, assisted by Madih Talal’s brilliant delivery, proved decisive in a match marked by intense duels and red cards for both sides.

The Red and Gold Brigade started strong, creating early chances, but were denied by NorthEast United’s goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh. The visitors, too, came close to scoring, with Parthib Gogoi and Alaaeddine Ajaraei testing East Bengal’s defense, only to be thwarted by Lalchungnunga and the crossbar.

After Diamantakos’ 23rd-minute goal, East Bengal defended resolutely, even after being reduced to ten men following Lalchungnunga’s late dismissal. NorthEast United’s Mohammed Ali Bemammer also saw red in the second half, leaving both teams to battle shorthanded.

Despite NorthEast United’s late push, East Bengal held firm, claiming their first win of the season under coach Oscar Bruzon.
