England spin-spearhead Sophie Ecclestone suffered a “minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone” in the side’s last league game of the Women’s World Cup against New Zealand.

She will be monitored in the lead-up to the semi-final against South Africa, which will be played in Guwahati, on Wednesday, October 29. In fact, England are hopeful of their premier spinner playing the crucial game.

A statement from England and Wales Cricket Board said: “Results of an MRI scan on Sophie Ecclestone’s left shoulder indicate a minor injury to the joint next to her collar bone. She will continue to be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final against South Africa.”

The 26-year-old was instrumental in England’s journey to the last-four. In the tournament so far, she has taken 12 wickets from just six matches at an economy rate of 3.98. England were brilliant in the group stage as they earned 11 points from seven matches, winning six of them. Their game against Pakistan was washed out due to rain.
