
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has announced the appointment of Ed Smith as it’s next president who will be taking over his role in October 2025. Smith who has been a former England cricketer and national selector will bringexperience in both on and off filed to his prestigious position.
Smith’s cricketing career includes nearly 13000 runs in first class matches and played for Kent and Middlesex. Later he became England’s national selector from 2018 to 2021. During this time England won the 2019 Cricket World Cupand reached top position in the different formats of the game.
Speaking about his new role, Smith said. “Lord’s has been a special part of my life – as a cricket fan, a player and then as a selector”.Smith added “I am deeply committed to serving the club – and the whole game – to the best of my ability.”
The MCC which is based at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London is one of the oldest Cricket clubs in the world. Smith added, “The choice of my successor meets the twin criteria of being an outstanding first-class cricketer who played for England and a highly intelligent author and educator who is ideally equipped to help MCC navigate the challenges ahead.”
Smith is also involved in academia as he is the co founder of the Sports Humanities (ISH), which aims to nurture andinspire sports persons. He also teaches the MA Leadership in Sports with partnership with Loughborough University London.
During Smith’s time period of being President Lord’s will host the final of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and also they will host Women’s Test Cricket for the first time.
