This piece is personal, because RevSportz is personal. It’s a baby, raised with care and through hard labour and most importantly, through an enforcing of something called ‘excellence’.
Personally, it’s the only way I know to approach my work. Right from my days as a graduate student writing her Ph.D dissertation to now a mother, who has to re-learn maths and computer science to teach her child — it’s excellence that I seek in every little job that I have on my plate. And it’s a quality that must be pursued through every imperfect day, through every job that didn’t get done as well as one wished it to be done.
For, it’s that pursuit of excellence that shows up in the longer run in your brand value and your ethical heft. In how you are perceived by your peers and by the world at large, no matter how hard the trolls troll you. Each day and everyday — it’s the pursuit of that quality of excellence that makes RevSportz stand apart, a four-year-old company that now strives to set narratives in India’s sports media domain.
Excellence is an obsessive quality. A quality that even risks sometimes making you unpopular amongst your peers or colleagues. In the present media domain, it’s a quality that should be aggressively set apart from the obsession with views and numbers on social media, or the obsession with likes and followers. Excellence works as a gold standard. It works through hard discipline as opposed to click baits or sensationalism, it works against the tide of what ‘sells’, and it works to create a solid work ethic.

For RevSportz, the pursuit of excellence has been relentless and non-negotiable, whether that’s in the protocols that we observe internally as a company or in the kind of work we try to do. Sometimes it’s not the easiest or most popular job to enforce those protocols, or to actually put in place the structures that make for the best practices. Yet, it’s in those very details that there hide the seeds of excellence and outcome.
For many of us, media is a glamorous business. We tend to see the travels and overseas tours, the awards, the last even drawing the distant country cousin into the celebration bandwagon!
For myself and for others at RevSportz, the awards feel good, but the best validation is always in the quest and the outcome of excellence. Excellence lies in the processes of each day, it lies in sorting every small mess, in finding joy in every small experiment, or in watching each confident step that that we helped a young team member to take.
