The third Test at Lord’s between India and England is set for a dramatic finish on Day Five, with India needing 135 runs and six wickets in hand to take a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. England, however, will be eager to defend the target on a pitch that has shown plenty of assistance for both seamers and spinners throughout the match.
India finished Day 4 at 58/4, after losing Akash Deep late in the evening. Earlier in the day, England were bowled out for 192, setting up a fourth-innings target of 193 for India. The day saw 14 wickets fall, reflecting the pitch’s increasing difficulty.
KL Rahul, who scored a brilliant century in the first innings, remains unbeaten on 33 and will likely be joined by Rishabh Pant when play resumes on Monday.
“That’s the Partnership You Want to Break” – Nasser Hussain
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain praised the temperament of both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, highlighting how crucial their partnership could be on the final day.
“He has been there before. He has done it in Australia. He doesn’t bottle it. Rishabh Pant, he won’t be affected by pressure. He thrives on pressure. The two at the crease, we are presuming Rishabh Pant will come out tomorrow. Mr Cool KL Rahul, calm and calculated, who is getting runs for fun in this series and on this ground. Mr Chaos Rishabh Pant, but in that method that you know he knows exactly what he is doing. He handles pressure well. That’s the partnership you want to break.”
Hussain added that the balance of the match slightly favours India, given the experience of their batters and the manageable target.
“I think it’s maybe 52-48 in India’s favour. England have touse the newish ball and hit those cracks hard.”
